Community luncheon, services planned honoring the Martin Luther King Jr.

Posted

On Sunday, January 19, the Fayette community will come together to honor the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a series of uplifting and impactful events.

This year’s celebration, organized by the Fayette ministerial alliance in partnership with dedicated volunteers from the community and Central Methodist University, is inspired by the name: “Courage to Love, Strength to Act.” The day will begin with a community luncheon at 12:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 101 West Davis Street in Fayette. The luncheon will feature a warm selection of soup, chili, sandwiches, desserts, and more, providing an opportunity for fellowship and reflection.

The luncheon will be followed by a Memorial Walk/Drive at 1:45 p.m., beginning at First Baptist Church and proceeding to the Assembly Hall on the campus of Central Methodist University for the service program. Participants are encouraged to enter the campus from the Church Street entrance on the south side of Linn Memorial United Methodist Church, and may also enter through the doors beneath the clock tower.

The service program will commence at 2 p.m., featuring live music by Eugene “The Talking Sax” Peebles. A keynote address by Reverend Bill O’Neal, Pastor of Linn Memorial UMC, will reflect on Dr. King’s enduring message of love, unity, and social justice.

The community is warmly invited to participate in this meaningful celebration of Dr. King’s life, legacy, and enduring vision.
