Glasgow resident Dale Himmelberg, age 61, passed away at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri, following a recent battle with renal cell cancer.
Dale Joseph Himmelberg was born in Cooper County, Missouri, on January 4, 1962. He was one of six children born to the late Clarence E. and Marcella A. (Grotewiel) Himmelberg. He graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1980. Dale continued his education by earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. On May 10, 1986, Dale married the love of his life, Melanie Palmer, at St. Mary Church in Glasgow. This past May, the couple celebrated 37 years of marriage.
Dale worked his entire career (36 years) for the University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, the last years as a locksmith. In addition to his work at the hospital, Dale continued working on the family farm with crops, alfalfa hay, and cattle (essentially two full-time jobs!) He loved to tinker and fix things, got excited about new adventures, and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. He adored his grandkids!
Survivors include his wife of the home, Melanie Himmelberg; two daughters, Brittany (Dustin) Hart of Fayette, Missouri, and Lauren Himmelberg of St. Charles, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kinsley, Carson, and Cash Hart; three siblings, Delbert W. Himmelberg of Glasgow, Missouri, Diane (Adolph) Barringhaus of Armstrong, Missouri, and Darlene Dougherty of Moberly, Missouri. Dale is also survived by brother-in-law Richard E. Palmer of Columbia, Missouri, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by two brothers, David F. Himmelberg, Sr., and Donald A. Himmelberg.
