David “Wayne” Pruett, Sr., 88, of Fayette, passed away August 23, 2021 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia.

Wayne was born on January 30, 1933 in Kahoka, Missouri to William and Verna Crete Wheeler Pruett.  He started school in Moline, Illinois and the family later moved to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.  In 1951 Wayne moved with his family to Armstrong, Missouri where he graduated from high school in 1952.  Wayne and Betty Noll were married on December 6, 1952.  Following their marriage they lived and worked in Kansas City.  On March 3, 1953, Wayne entered the US Army for basic training at Camp Roberts California and later served at Ft. Lewis Washington and in Alaska.  Upon discharge from the service, Wayne and Betty returned to Armstrong where he farmed with his father.  In 1959, he joined the Carpenters’ Union in Columbia and he worked with is son, Bill, beginning in 1975 as a carpenter.  Wayne later worked with the Fayette Housing Authority as Maintenance Supervisor.  Wayne and Betty also operated Modern Dry Cleaners in Fayette from 1976 – 1983.

Wayne had been a member of Linn Memorial United Methodist Church and the Fayette Lions Club.  Favorite pastimes included going to dances, motorcycle riding and traveling.

Betty and Wayne were married for forty-nine years and six months when she preceded him in death on May 30, 2002.  Wayne was also preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Shirley Trad and Rosella Forsythe.

Wayne is survived by his sons, David Pruett (Deborah Hayes), William Pruett and Mark Pruett; his special companion and friend for many fun filled years, Raeola Walker and several nieces and nephews.

No public services are scheduled at this time due to family’s COVID-19 safety concerns. Wayne will be buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Armstrong. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Walnut Hill Cemetery Association in care of Carr-Yager Funeral Home, P.O. Box 210, Fayette, Missouri 65248.
