For the first time in school history, New Franklin has a state cross country medalist. On Saturday, Nov. 8, at the state meet held at Gans Creek in Columbia, sophomore Quincy Dorson finished sixth out of a field of 175 of the best Class 1 runners in the state, earning a medal with a time of 16:57.8.
His younger brother, freshman Ryder Dorson, also finished in the top third of the field, placing 56th overall with a new personal record of 18:15.0.
“What a way to end an incredible season. I’m so proud to be their coach and to see what happens in the years to come,” said New Franklin coach Allison Allgood.
Also competing in the Class 1 boys’ race, Higbee senior Danny Janssen finished 20th overall in 17:28.3, and Joshua Sayler, a junior from Glasgow, finished 57th with a time of 18:15.7.
In Class 1 girls’ action, Kamryn Kottman, a freshman from Glasgow, finished 85th in 23:54.0. Other Glasgow finishers included senior Jaclyn Johnson (111th in 24:42.3), senior Magdalene Kramm-Neighbor (117th in 24:55.6), freshman Lydia Friedrich (131st in 25:42.0), sophomore Paysen Thies (133rd in 26:07.0), and junior Aly Prentzler (134th in 26:13.6).
Harrisburg had three runners compete in the Class 2 girls’ race. Junior Josey Whitaker finished 39th in 21:17.6. Jacqueline Stidham, a freshman, finished 60th in 21:47.6, and junior Marie Bergfield placed 69th with a time of 21:57.6.
