Eagles open Heart play at home with two wins over Peru State

Central Methodist baseball earned two victories over Peru State College by scores of 15-2 and 12-3 in the Heart opener Sunday afternoon at Estes Field.

The Eagles start the season 12-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

In game one, Robbie Merced led the Eagle bats, batting 4-for-5 with four RBI, including a two-RBI double. Joseph Weatherford followed with two hits and three RBI including a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double.

Bobby Nichols, Alan West, and Jeremy Conforti each drove in two runners. Nichols also picked up a stolen base.

Altogether, Central finished the day scoring 15 runs on 14 hits.

Sebastian Escobar earned his fourth win of the year, tossing five complete innings while allowing just one earned run on five hits. He also struck out six batters.

Alexander Billo allowed just one earned run in two innings of relief.

Tanner Sears and Merced each recorded two-run homers, and West had a solo home run as the Eagles won game two 12-3.

Clayton Burke allowed  three earned runs on six hits and five walks with six strikeouts in six complete innings.

Alfred Ulloa delivered a strikeout in one inning of relief.

The final two games of the four-game series against Peru were postponed due to projected wind-chill temperatures. CMU returns home next weekend with a four-game series against Baker.
