After experiencing its worst week of the season last week, the Fayette Junior Babe Ruth baseball team climbed on the back of superb pitching performances by Payton Oeth and Kaleb Friebe to take two wins, 9-0, and 9-5 Wednesday and Thursday. The two wins moved the Fayette boys’ season record to 6-5.
Wednesday night Fayette took on New Franklin and won 9-0. Oeth got the start, giving up two hits while striking out 13.
Friebe led the team offensively with a 3-for-4 night and one RBI. Austin Kunze, Jacob Wood, and Oeth each garnered two hits apiece, with one of Woods’ hits being a double. Each of the three contributed an RBI.
Corbin Tucker, Charles Alexander, and Thad Quint each added a hit with Tucker and Quint driving in two runs apiece.
Lane Hackman took the mound for New Franklin going five innings and striking out seven. Hackman and Oeth threw 82 and 85 pitches respectively with Hackman throwing 53 strikes and Oeth throwing 56.
On Thursday night, coach Brandon Friebe’s Fayette team grabbed a 9-5 win from Central Realty.
Kaleb Friebe toed the rubber for Fayette, going 4.2 innings while giving up six hits and six walks while striking out six. Charles Alexander came on in relief in the fifth, but gave up two walks. Alexander gave way to Thomas Elliott who finished the game on a pop-up between home and the pitcher’s mound.
Corbin Tucker paced the Falcons with three hits and an RBI. Tucker also scored two runs. Kunze and Oeth each contributed two hits on the night with Kunze driving in three while Oeth drove in two.
Friebe helped himself with a two-RBI double. Parker LaValley, Caleb Craig, and Hudson Conrow each contributed a hit with Craig earning an RBI.
Fayette took on KWRT last night after The Advertiser went to press, and will follow that game tonight against BTC Bank at 6 p.m.
