The Fayette school district last week received approval for a School Age Community (SAC) grant, which funds the Monday and after-school Falcon Club program.
This is the second time Fayette has secured the three-year federal grant.
Fayette transitioned to a four-day school week in the fall of 2020. The Falcon Club began on Monday, January 11, 2021, and allows students to come to school on Mondays when there are no classes. It also allows students to stay at school until 6 p.m. the rest of the week. The program includes meals and afternoon snacks.
Cheri Huster, the district’s curriculum director, said the administration has been anxious to find out if Fayette would be awarded the grant for a second time with the hopes of keeping the Falcon Club going.
“We’re very, very excited about it because it’s renewed for three years,” Huster told the Board of Education on September 20, the day the grant was awarded. “We can continue service and add kids in.”
