Presiding Circuit 14 Judge Scott Hayes announced Monday that all pending jury trials and most court cases and dockets scheduled from March 18 through April 15 will be continued in an effort to comply with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I have conferred with Judges Gebhardt and Cooksey, along with the Circuit Clerks, and we have decided to follow the advice of the health care officials out of an abundance of caution and limit person to person exposure,” Hayes said.

Court will remain open, but on a limited accessibility basis. Technology such as videoconferencing will be used whenever possible to conduct hearings.

While all bulk and large dockets are continued, there will still be some individual cases, trials and hearings conducted. Therefore, it is imperative that everyone with a scheduled case remain in contact with their attorney and with the Circuit Clerks offices should they need more information on their cases. Notices will be mailed out to those with cases that have been continued and the information will appear on case.net.

“I know that this is not an ideal situation, but your patience and understanding are appreciated,” Judge Hayes said. “Know that the Courts remain here, and will be diligent on protecting the rights of all concerned so that the administration of justice will continue uninterrupted.”
