An early four-run lead was plenty of cushion for Dustin Gipson against Linn High on Tuesday night in Harrisburg.
Gipson struck out 14 batters, including 11 consecutive, during a 4-0 win over the Wildcats. He did not allow a hit through four and 2/3 innings, finishing with two hits and two walks allowed.
Gipson will be playing at the junior college level next year in Trenton.
“He has made great strides each year,” Harrisburg coach Chris Ackman said.
“Watching him this summer though has shown that he has made his biggest jump. His confidence is through the roof. He has electric stuff that can shut down lineups.
“I can’t wait to see what he does over the next two seasons at NCMC.”
Brayden Hudson reached on an error in the first inning, stole second base, and eventually scored the first run of the game on a ground out.
The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the second inning with a pair of hit batsmen and a single from Carter Bremer.
Austin Starbuck drew an RBI walk, Hudson came through with an RBI single to left and Anthony Alicea drove in a run with a fielder’s choice to third.
Earlier on Tuesday, Alicea was 2-2 with a walk during a 5-2 Harrisburg win over Macon.
The Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but came back with two runs in the second and two more in the third.
Logan Fritts was 1-2 with a walk, a run, and an RBI. Jonah Sanford was 1-2 with a walk and scored a run. Hudson, Austin Bruns, and Wyatt Frost each had an RBI in the win.
