Glasgow Chief of Police Tyler Polson resigned his post early last month.
A public notice from Glasgow Mayor Joseph Gibbs stated that Polson voluntary resigned on December 6. The city has since appointed Glasgow policeman Joshua Lafferty to serve as Interim Police Chief.
Polson was appointed Glasgow’s Chief of Police on March 8, 2021.
Polson and the City of Glasgow has been embroiled in lawsuits since August 2023, when Polson alleged in a petition to the circuit court of Howard and Randolph counties that he had faced hostilities from then city council members Renna Bean and Susan Freese.
Bean was later impeached by her fellow Alderman. However, a judge sided with her in a lawsuit against the city council, reversing the impeachment and granting her back pay.
Polson’s suit against Glasgow also claims the city allegedly stripped away a raise and, therefore, reduced his salary. The suit cites Bean’s involvement in his pay reduction. A change of venue to Randolph County was granted in November, 2023.
The last docket entry is dated in September 2024. However, a source suggested a settlement in the case had been reached between Polson and the city. A part of the alleged settlement was that Polson would leave his post as Glasgow Chief of Police. This has not yet been vetted by this newspaper. An upcoming disposition hearing is still on the schedule for April 15, 2025, in Randolph County.
