Howard County Dems choose Biden, GOP sticks with Trump

Joe Biden was the overwhelming favorite chosen by Howard County Democrats during Tuesday’s statewide Presidential Preference Primary, according to unofficial results released by the Howard County Clerk’s office.. Biden, the current frontrunner in the Democrat Party’s runup to the August primary, secured 62.6 percent of party votes for this county. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a so-called Democratic Socialist, finished a distant runner up with 29.56 percent of the vote. Michael Bloomberg and Elizabeth, both of whom had suspended their campaigns prior to the primary, were the only other Democrats to earn more than 1 percent of the vote in Howard County with 1.68 percent and 1.34 percent respectively.

President Donald Trump easily won the Republican ticket here in Howard County with 96.99 percent of the vote. He tallied the highest vote count here with 580. Biden had 559 and Sanders had 264 in total.

Six votes were cast for the Libertarian Party, all of which went to lone candidate Jacob Hornberger. No ballots were cast for the Green and Constitution parties..

Results were similar in statewide counts. Pres. Trump led the total vote count and handily won the Republican race with 96.8 percent voter approval. On the Democratic ticket, Biden came away the clear winner with 60 percent voter approval compared to 34.5 percent for Sen. Sanders.

The Missouri Presidential Primary has little to no effect on the actual outcome of either the primary election, which will occur in August, or the general election in November.
