Janie Lea DeWall, 60, of New Franklin, Mo., passed away on August 8, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center.
Janie was born in Lebanon, Mo., on October 13, 1963, a daughter of Karl and Judy Burton Hartung. She married Tom DeWall on September 5, 1982, in Brookfield, Mo. Tom survives at their home.
She was employed as a pharmacy technician at Cooper County Hospital and retired from Exchange Bank in New Franklin as a bank teller. Janie was selfless in her love for her family, and they loved and cared for her as well. She loved reading every chance she got, except when the St. Louis Cardinals were on TV which she so passionately watched every game. She enjoyed going to the Casino and on weekend getaways to other casinos with Tom. She could cook up a storm and always tried new recipes as well. In her spare time, she intently worked on puzzles as well as days spent with Bandit, her Shih Tzu.
Those cherishing her memory include her husband, Tom DeWall; sons Chris DeWall and wife, P.J., and Mark DeWall; her grandchildren, Hailey Meyer and Heidi, Hope, and Axel DeWall; her mother, Judy Kalvig; and her mother-in-law, Maralyn DeWall. Also surviving are her canine companion Bandit and her grand-dog Leo.
Janie was preceded in death by her father and stepmother who raised her, Karl and Betty Hartung; a sister, Karla Hartung; stepsister Jeaneeta Love; and stepbrothers Stephen and Stanley Clemmons.
Services honoring Janie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin, with burial following at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Vincent P. Gurucharri, M.D. Foundation to assist cancer patients.
Condolences may be shared at www.marklandyager.com.
