Lady Falcons drop contest to fourth-ranked Clopton

The Lady Falcons fell to an old postseason rival Friday night at the Mid-Missouri Invitational, sponsored by Ramey, at Harrisburg. Fayette lost to Clopton, at the time ranked fourth in Class 2, 80-47.

Clopton used a full-court press throughout the game, trapping and turning over Fayette from the start while jumping out to a 28-7 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Falcons fared far better in the second quarter, scoring 13 points while holding the high-scoring Lady Hawks to 21. Clopton led 49-20 at the half.

The Lady Falcons continued to battle, outscoring Clopton in the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell to the perennial state title contender 80-47.

“I’m proud of how our girls competed against one of the best teams in the state,” said Fayette Coach Rachel Harding. “We still had two wins this week and look forward to more big games next week.”

Senior Kabrea Fair led the Lady Falcons with 17 points. Freshman Eastin Hill and senior Oakleigh Hill added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

On Monday, Fayette picked up a road victory at North Calloway 52-43 to inch closer to .500 at 6–7 overall. The Falcons were set to return home on Tuesday after the Advertiser went to press to host their inaugural Central State 8 game against New Bloomfield on Pink Out Night.

Fayette returns to Coach Combs Court next week as the No. 5 seed in the Harrisburg Tournament. The Falcons face fourth-seeded Blair Oaks at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the high school gym.
