Lois “Jean” Robb, 85, of Fayette, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, at The Lodge in Fayette.
Jean was born on October 8, 1940, a daughter of the late John Edwin Strodtman and Hallie Jane (Kiso) Strodtman. She married Marion “Leroy” Robb on June 6, 1957. Leroy preceded her in death on October 30, 2011.
She was a 1957 graduate of Armstrong High School. Jean had previously served as Deputy Howard County Collector and as Fayette City Collector. She was later employed with Randolph County Home Health until retiring in 2005.
Jean was affectionately known by family and friends as Grandma Jean and Mean Jean with the Green Machine. She loved her family and was a bonus grandma to many. She and Leroy were founding members of Unity Baptist Church in Fayette. She enjoyed crocheting—making a beautifully intricate Last Supper wall hanging, sewing, and crafts. No one ever left Jean’s home hungry—some of her family’s favorite dishes she made included her meatloaf, deviled eggs, and puppy chow. She was a longtime St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, recording their statistics in notebooks for years.
Jean is lovingly remembered by a daughter, Brenda Gay McDonald (Jody Decker); grandchildren, Johnny Barton (Tiffany Corley), Jerry Barton (Sheila Zimmerman), Brian Gilmore (Seirra Hutchings), and Dillian McDonald (Logan); and by 15 much-loved great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Kay Robb; son-in-law, Carl Ray McDonald; brothers, Francis “Leroy” Strodtman, Russell Wayne Strodtman, and John Bradford Strodtman; a sister, Muriel “Ardell” Stone-Graves; and by two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Nivert-Barton and Jocelyn Nivert.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette.
A funeral service honoring Jean’s life will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the funeral home with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Fayette Food Pantry.
