A Fayette man already on felony probation for threatening to stab people outside of a high school football game last fall now faces two new weapons charges following an altercation on Oct. 1. Noel Olumbe Parkins, 30, was arrested by Fayette police Oct. 5 for allegedly brandishing a handgun in an aggressive manner toward neighbors on North Howard Street on Oct. 1.
According to a probable cause statement by Fayette Police Chief Jeff Oswald, officers were called to the area in reference to a man with a gun. Witnesses told police Parkins exited a home at 310 N. Howard St. and “came into the street yelling and aggressively running up to (our) house, with a black handgun at his side.”
The witness fled to a neighbor’s house and phoned police, at which time Parkins fled the scene, according to the statement. No gun was found during the time of Parkins’s arrest.
In April of this year Parkins was handed a suspended sentence of four years in prison he pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon, a Class E felony. He was originally charged with making a terroristic threat after he displayed a knife outside a Fayette High School Football game in 2019. He also threatened to return with a gun.
As a felon, it is illegal for Parkins to possess a firearm. He now faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, a Class D felony, and unlawful use of a weapon - exhibiting, a Class E felony. He remains in custody at the Howard County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
Parkins is scheduled to appear before Judge Michael Bail on Oct. 26 in Howard County court for a probation violation hearing. He is to be arraigned before Judge Mason Gebhardt on Nov. 10.
