Fayette resident Mark Thompson, age 64, passed away suddenly at his home on August 11, 2024.

Mark Cecil Thompson was born on June 21, 1960, in Burlington, Vt., a son to Reginald C. and Virginia (Shipman) Thompson. Mark graduated from Lamoille Union High School in Hyde Park, Vt. Growing up in Vermont, Mark enjoyed skiing, snowmobile excursions with the family, trout fishing, and spending time with grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins on the farm. His grandfather would give the young ones responsibilities on the dairy farm and maple syrup sugaring farm, which made them feel special.

Mark always had ambitions to live in the Midwest. After hearing an advertisement on the radio, he came to Missouri to be a part of a touring ministry through Faith Family Church. He eventually took a job as Youth Pastor for the church. Mark was an ordained minister through Faith Family Church and practiced and shared the word of God with many throughout his life. On May 28, 1994, Mark married the love of his life, Judy (Belcher) Cade, in Fayette, Mo. They’ve shared over 30 wonderful years together. Mark owned and operated a landscaping business, Creators Design, LLC, since 2001. He loved being outdoors, deer hunting and fishing. Mark was also a skilled musician who loved playing guitar and singing worship hymns. His laugh was infectious and could fill up a room. His guidance and leadership through his ministry will be remembered by the countless people he has impacted over the years. Mark truly enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his three grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Thompson of Fayette, Mo.; Daughter, Janelle (Andrew) Palmer of Ashland, Mo.; three grandchildren, Cade, Brooks, and Berkeley; his mother, Virginia Thompson of Fayette, Mo.; a brother, Gordon (Cynthia) Thompson of Ruidoso, N.M., as well as many beloved extended family members. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Reginald Thompson.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette. A celebration of life memorial service and visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Faith Family Church in Fayette. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11 a.m., and the service will follow starting at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Thompson Family, benefitting Mark’s grandchildren. Final arrangements are under the direction of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 174 Hwy. 5 & 240 N., Fayette, MO 65254.
