Mary Ellen Jennings, 75, of Boonville, passed away July 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at Landmark Hospital in Columbia.

Visitation for Mary Ellen will be held at Howard Funeral Home Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 4 until 6 p.m. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Howard Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Fairley officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.

Mary Ellen “Lang” Jennings was born on January 30, 1947, in Boonville, Missouri, to Richard Monroe Lang and Mary Elizabeth (Hamlett) Lang.

Mary Ellen went through all 12 years at New Franklin School and graduated in 1965. She played sports and was a good cheerleader, and was also in the school choir and band. Mary Ellen had a paper route when she was younger. She picked strawberries on the University Farm every summer for several years.

Mary Ellen attended and was confirmed in the United Church of Christ in New Franklin, Missouri. In early 1963 she began dating Dale Jennings and waited for him to go to college and join the US army. After six years, the two were wed on November 29, 1969, in Arrow Rock, Missouri, by Reverend N.C Schultz. Mary Ellen and Dale spent their first 22 years of marriage in Glasgow, Missouri. Glasgow was always a very special place for Mary Ellen and Dale to call home. They had two sons, Shane and Lance, who both attended and graduated from Glasgow High School. Mary Ellen and Dale spent the next 20 years in Boonville, Missouri, working at Jennings Premium Meats in New Franklin. They retired together in 2012.

Mary Ellen was a wonderful cook and loved to do it. She cooked for the locker gang during deer season every year, for many years. Mary Ellen was a loving and very protective mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. If you do not think so, ask Kendall Kircher and Scott Storjohann. She loved doing yard work and tending to her bird feeders. She enjoyed traveling all over the US with her husband for many years.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary Elizabeth Lang, and a niece and nephew.

Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband of the home; two sons, Wesley Shane Jennings and wife Shelley, and Sidney Lance Jennings and wife Heather. She is survived by her grandchildren, Kelsie (Cameron) Martin, Canna Rassa Jennings, and Casten Jennings, and great-grandson Creed Martin. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Emerson, and husband Richard of Columbia, Missouri, and a brother, Richard Lang, and wife Diana of New Franklin, Missouri. She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins from all over.

Mary Ellen was a loving and kind person and will be missed by many.
