The Howard County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Legion White-Bell Post 273 will once again host a Memorial Day service on the south side of the courthouse square in Fayette. The event will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 28.
A popular part of the ceremony includes the awarding of the Quilt of Valor by the Peacemakers Quilters. This year’s recipient is Harold Meyers, a veteran of the U.S Navy Air Force, and an active member of the White-Bell Post of the American Legion. (See full story below).
Fayette Mayor Jeremy Dawson will deliver a message of welcome to those in attendance.
This year’s keynote speaker will be J. Y. Miller, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and resident of Glasgow.
Music will be provided by Pastor Jamie Page. Selections include “God Bless America” and the “Star Spangled Banner.”
Fayette’s Boy Scout Troop 62 will raise the flag following the ceremony’s invocation. White-Bell American Legion Post member Dennis Barton will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Joshua Kirby, White-Bell Post member, will recognize attending veterans in all branches of the nation’s armed forces.
The Howard County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will lay the memorial wreath at the armed forces monument on the square.
The service is free and the public is invited.
