Men’s soccer ends season in Heart quarters

The sixth-seeded Central Methodist men’s Soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to third-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene in the Heart Tournament Quarterfinals Friday afternoon in Olathe, Kan.

The Eagles finish the year with an 8-7-3 overall record. MNU advances to the Heart semifinals, where they will play seventh-seeded Mount Mercy for a spot in the championship game.

It also marks the final game for seniors Isaac Johnson, Alvaro Perojo, and Jayton Johnson.

Central had two early scoring chances in the first half, with the second chance resulting in what appeared to be a goal for Perojo. However, the goal was brought back after Perojo was called offsides in the 11th minute of play.

MNU scored in the 28th minute, followed by another goal in the 38th minute to take a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.

After recording just two first-half shots, Central cranked up the offensive pressure in the second 45, firing off seven shots compared to just one for the Pioneers.

The Eagles were only able to put three shots on target for the duration of the match, as MNU would go on to preserve the clean sheet.

Koen Schimmel finished the afternoon with three shots, followed by Cian Halpin with two. Perojo, Liam Arthur, Matheus Storck, and Jayton Johnson each recorded one shot for the Eagles.
