The New Franklin boys 4x800-meter relay team shattered the school’s record in the event by nearly 12 seconds Monday afternoon at the Westran High School Relays in Huntsville.

Ryder Dorson, Haden Davis, Noah Hackman, and Quincy Dorson took the gold medal with a time of 8:47.92, more than 25 seconds in front of their nearest competitor.

“All of those boys worked very hard, and it was great to see them put four strong legs together at the same time,” said New Franklin coach Adam Quest.

The relay victory was New Franklin’s only top posting of the day amid three runner-up finishes by the boys and two by the girls. Quincy Dorson claimed the silver in the 3200m (10:21.32), and Hackman placed second in the 400m (54.53). Senior Landon Shaw took second place in the triple jump (38-11.5) and fourth in the 400m (54.69).

“Our boys team continues to impress me. They were able to finish fifth as a team, finishing above a couple of Class 2 schools,” said Quest.

On the girls’ side, senior Lily Chitwood claimed second place in the 800m  with a season-best time of 2:33.67.

“Lily was getting over an illness, and she had an outstanding race today,” Quest said.

Senior CannaRassa Jennings placed second with the shot put (32-2.5). The girls 4x400-meter relay team also placed fourth overall. Kallie Burnett, Belle Chitwood, Kaydi Webster and Chitwood turned in a time of 4:40.78.
