It was a perfect night for softball when the Lady River Rats and Outlaws met in Boonville on Tuesday. It was sunny and 75 degrees for the first pitch, cooling off as the sun set in left field behind the 12U doubleheader.

The weather and the Outlaws’ offensive execution in the first inning of the nightcap were equally superb. With the bases loaded, Leah Thies came through with a two-run single up the middle to put Fayette ahead by a run, starting a six-run inning. Fayette added eight more in the second for a 14-6 win. Game one also went 8-3 in favor of the Outlaws.

The first game also started with four Outlaws reaching base before an out was recorded. Grace Poulsen and Payton Kindle each worked a full count and drew a walk. Poulsen would score on a passed ball and Kindle scored on a Mia Eckerle infield single. Mabry Caton also had an RBI as the Outlaws took a 4-0 lead.

The River Rats got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Leah Noll scored after a single from Kandyce Campbell. Glasgow loaded the bases, but Kindle got a strikeout to end the threat. Kindle pitched all four innings for Fayette, allowing two hits and seven walks with eight strikeouts.

Taylor Olendorff walked, stole second, and scored for the River Rats in the fourth inning. Emmalen Senor drew a walk as well and scored on a bunt single by Aynslie Lock. Brooklynn Morris struck out 10 batters over four innings. She gave up three hits and walked nine.

For Fayette, Thies doubled and scored on Caton’s single in the third. Shaylynn Morris drew two walks and scored a run as well.

In game two, Mariah Felten was 1-1 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Kyleigh Carol was 1-1 with a walk and one RBI as well. Browyn Eubanks was 1-2 and scored a run. Poulsen was 1-3 with a run scored. Kindle and Eckerle were each 1-1 with two runs scored.
