Photo book depicting west side of square donated to library

A book of photographs depicting demolition and reconstruction of the west side of the downtown Fayette square was donated to the Fayette Public Library on Thursday. Pat Hilgedick documented the changing landscape of that block with daily photographs of the project. She then printed her photos in book form for herself and a couple of friends, and made one extra copy for the library.

“The Old West Side of the Square: From Old to New 2021-2024” documents the demolition of nearly a block of buildings along Church Street and a half block of buildings on West Morrison Street that gave way to a new nearly $10 million construction project by Central Methodist University. The new building houses university students on the top two floors, with the street level reserved for local businesses. Anchoring the new Eagle Plaza is the forthcoming restaurant, LaFayette on the Square.

The book is available to view at the library.
