Robert E. "Gene" Brooks,83, of Armstrong formerly of the Moberly area passed away peacefully, October 25, 2024, at his stepdaughter’s home in Boonville.

He was born February 2. 1941. Robert lived a full and vibrant life marked by his passions, dedication, and love for family.

A proud railroad engineer, Robert worked with several railroads, including Wabash, Norfolk Southern, and Norfolk and Western, before embarking on a successful career as a cattle farmer. His love for baseball was evident as he secured a place in a tryout camp for a baseball team and played for the Standford Stars and Moberly Merchants. Robert also made history by being on the last passenger train into Moberly in 1969 and served as a Corn Moisture Checker for the government.

Robert pursued his education at Moberly Junior College and Kirksville State Teachers Hospital. His Career also included a stint at JC Penny, but it was his love for the New York Yankees, that stood out. He cherished the memory of seeing them play during the final game at Yankee Stadium before its demolition.

Robert is survived by his son, Ronald Brooks, his daughter, Holly Kirkendoll, stepson, Ricky Cundiff and stepdaughter, Kathy Garrett. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his nine grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Brook, his parents, two sisters, and his stepson, Timmy Cundiff

He will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his love for family, and his zest for life. Robert touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Friday November 1, 2024, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, with funeral services honoring and celebrating Gene's life to follow at 1 p.m. A private committal prayer and burial will take place at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
