Seeking Support for Pool Renovation

Posted

Letter to the Editor:

The Fayette Historic Preservation Commission with assistance from the Friends of Historic Fayette Memorial Pool are applying for a Land and Water Grant through the Department of Natural Resources for the renovation and upgrade of the Fayette Swimming Pool/World War I Memorial.

The first phase of the renovations will be to address required ADA accessibility which will include: a wheelchair lift to the second floor of the pool, a new ADA bathroom in each of the locker rooms, a lift into the pool, upgrades to electricity and renovation of two bathrooms in the back of the pool to ADA compliance for public use.  Depending on the cost of these items, we hope to be able to address other items of improvement such as new windows.  The maximum amount that we can apply for this year is $500,000.  The grant requires a 50% match.  The City of Fayette has pledge $10,000.00.

We are asking community members and organizations to please help us reach our goal of $250,000.  Any amount you can donate/pledge would be greatly appreciated.  Once our renovations are complete, our donors will be recognized on a plaque at the pool and in the paper.

We are also seeking letters of support from organizations and individuals for this project.  We would be so thankful for you writing in support for our project.  Donations can be received at any time.  However to be included in the grant, please send your donation/pledge letter and letter of support by October 31, 2022.
