The new splash park adjacent to the pool at the Fayette City Park officially opened on Friday, July 22, to an excited crowd amid soaring summer temperatures. The splash park was designed and built at a cost of $321,900 and was funded entirely by donations. Personalized bricks on the northwest edge helped put funding over the top for the project.
Construction began in October of last year and was completed within about a month. But delays persisted over issues with the concrete pad, which was dug up and replaced.
Finally last week youngsters were able to beat the heat when the splash park officially opened. With temperatures in the upper 90s and heat indexes in the triple digits, the splash park provided much-needed relief.
The park is free and open to the public. It operates between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. during warm weather.
