A major donation for the planned splash park in Fayette was delivered on Monday. A check for $150,000 was handed over from the estate of the late Lucile Thurman.
The splash park, which has been in the works for several years, will finally break ground on the project on Monday, September 27. It will be built adjacent to the historic Fayette Memorial Pool at the city park.
Mrs. Thurman passed away on June 4, 2020, less than seven weeks before her 101st birthday. She also left an additional $25,000 to create a memorial bench in the park beneath a dogwood tree.
Making the handoff was attorney Frank Flaspohler (right), who handled the estate. John Pettit (right) is the chairman of the splash park committee.
The committee is planning to sell personalized bricks to help procure additional funding.
Mrs. Thurman was a well-known Howard County resident and businesswoman. In addition to her donation toward the construction of the splash park, she left $150,000 to the Howard County Public Library.
