A large portion of Fayette was without power on Wednesday night after a tree limb fell onto power lines. High winds blew the tree limb onto the line, shorting out two phases.
Power was out for about an hour. City crews were able to remove the limb and restore electrical service by around 7 p.m.
On Friday evening, power was briefly interrupted on the city’s downtown circuit after a piece of tin blew off a building and landed on a power line.
High winds also caused outages for several customers of Howard Electric Cooperative on Wednesday. Howard Electric CEO Amber Overfelt said a three-phase pole, located along State Route W, broke under the strain of the winds. In addition, several large trees, more than 50 feet in height, blew over onto the lines, causing further outages.
Rainfall throughout the drought-stricken area varied drastically during Wednesday’s storms. Areas in Fayette recorded as little as a quarter inch, with areas outside of town benefitting from as much as 1.25 inches.
