Three crowned at Higbee Courtwarming

Justin Addison/Fayette Advertiser

For the first time in school history, Higbee has a two Kings and a Queen for Courtwarming. Queen Alie Mitchell (center) and Kings Derek Rockett (left) and Jaxon Hudson (right) were crowned Monday night between the varsity girls and boys basketball games.

High school principal and basketball coach Tanner Burton confirmed the tie in vote tallies, and said the ballots were recounted to make sure. Burton was also honored for recently winning his 100th game as a varsity boys coach.

In basketball action, the Lady Tigers defeated Braymer 61-39 to claim the regular-season CLAA title with an undefeated conference record. In the nightcap, the boys toppled Braymer 73-61 for the sweep. The Tigers finished the night one game away from also claiming the CLAA title just two days after winning the conference tournament for the third straight season. The boys were scheduled to play Keytesville Tuesday after the Advertiser went to press. A win would clinch the CLAA title with an undefeated conference season.
