Two candidates have filed for election to the City of Fayette’s Southwest Ward city council seat.
Southwest Ward incumbent Bekki Galloway declined to seek a second term.
As has been previously reported by the Advertiser, Fayette restauranteur Tristan Head, and LeAnna Shiflett have both filed for the seat. The two will appear on the April 2 ballot.
Mrs. Shiflett formally announced her campaign to this newspaper this week. She currently serves as Executive Director at Fayette Housing Authority, which provides a conflict of interest to her potential service on the city’s Board of Aldermen.
However, in a statement, Mrs. Shiflett vowed to recuse herself from any voting pertaining to the Fayette Housing Authority.
“I am running for Alderwoman of the Southwest Ward. I am the Executive Director at Fayette Housing Authority and this proposes a conflict of interest with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The conflict of interest is a result of the Fayette City Council voting on board members for FHA Board of Commissioners. I would like to inform the public that I am prepared to recuse myself from such votes and anything else that has to do with the Fayette Housing Authority.”
Mrs. Head is well-known as the co-owner and operator of TJ’s Diner & Bar, which recently opened on the east side of Fayette’s courthouse square. She also spearheaded Fayette’s most recent July 4 Party in the Park.
