Wayne Lavon Hill, 83, of New Franklin passed away at his home on November 29, 2022 lovingly cared for by his family.
Wayne was born in Brookfield, Missouri on July 20, 1939 a son of the late Willie Jasper Hill and Bessie Mae (Cheek) Hill. He married Linda Carole Dobson on June 5, 1965 at Bible Baptist Church in New Franklin. Linda survives at their home.
Service to others was important to Wayne. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He served his community as a founding member of the Howard County Fire Protection District retiring at the rank of Lieutenant after 25 years of dedication. He was also a member of the C.B./Fire Department for Cooper and Howard Counties as well as holding membership in the Cooper Masonic Lodge # 36 in Boonville, the Coffee Shop Round Table in Boonville; served as a Cub Scout leader in New Franklin and coached Midget League Baseball in New Franklin and Boonville. Of special importance to Wayne was being a member of Bible Baptist Church in New Franklin where he participated in the Proverbs Club.
Wayne was employed for thirty-seven years as a meat cutter at area grocery stores and retired as a truck driver with MFA Tire in Columbia.
Those left to honor Wayne’s memory include his wife, Linda Dobson Hill of New Franklin; his sons, Timothy Wayne Hill of New Franklin, Michael Todd Hill of Franklin and Charles Tony Hill (Kelley) of Franklin; four grandchildren, Benjamin Andrew Hill (Kristine), William Brock Hill (Courtney), Lucas Cole Wayne Hill and Kaitlyn Allison Faye Hill and two great-grandchildren, Talin Audrina Huddleston-Hill and Gunner Michael Hill. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wolpers (the late Erich Wolpers), Charles Leon Dobson (Karen) and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Jasper Hill; three sisters, Ruby McDaniels and husband, Chuck, Elsie Head and husband, Don and an infant sister, Frances Hill and sister-in-law, Donna Colvin and husband, Joe.
Services honoring Wayne’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 2, 2022 at Bible Baptist Church in New Franklin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
A procession led by the Howard and Cooper County Fire Departments will escort Wayne to Clarks Chapel Cemetery for interment with military honors.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Bible Baptist Church, Hometown Homecare or Howard County Fire Protection District Station 4.
