26th annual Fayette Juneteenth celebration June 18-21

Posted

The Fayette Juneteenth Celebration Committee, in partnership with St. Paul United Methodist Church and other local organizations, is excited and proud to host the 26th annual Juneteenth Celebration in Fayette. The event takes place over four days, from June 18 through 21, and marks a major milestone for the local community and highlights a significant chapter in American history.

A Historic Milestone

This year also marks the 161st anniversary of Juneteenth (June 19, 1865), when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform the last remaining enslaved African Americans of their freedom. That moment continues to be a symbol of delayed justice and the power of resilience, remembrance, and community.

Four Days of Celebration and Reflection

This year, the Fayette celebration is four days and includes a range of educational, cultural, and family-friendly events for all ages. The community is invited to attend and take part in this meaningful and festive occasion.

Thursday, June 18 – Juneteenth Banquet at Central Methodist University

On Thursday, June 18, the second annual Juneteenth Banquet will be held on the fourth floor of the Inman Center at Central Methodist University. The evening begins with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by the program and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy a fine dinner, entertainment, and a keynote address from Rev. Aaron Carter. The committee is grateful for the presenting sponsor, Commercial Trust Company, and other supporting sponsors. The program will include recognition of the Grand Marshals and a special tribute that evening. Tickets are $15 per person and must be purchased in advance, or you can RSVP to any committee member no later than June 13. Youth age 10 and under will be admitted for free. Vendor booths, including the Kid’s Market; a poster contest where the public has an opportunity to weigh in; a scavenger hunt; and various games and activities for youth and adults will take place throughout the day. One highlight is the always-popular, fun live auction, where attendees can bid on items and score great deals. The Gaines Food Court will be there under the big tent. The festive day will conclude with a fireworks display at Paige-Liberty Park starting at 9 p.m.

Sunday, June 21 – Worship and Barbecue Cook-Off

The final day of celebration begins Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with a community worship service on the courthouse lawn.
