A 49-year-old Brunswick man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance Monday afternoon in rural Howard County.
Christopher Lewis Doss is being held in the Howard County Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bond, facing two charges each of first-degree harassment, a Class E felony, and fourth-degree domestic assault, a Class A misdemeanor.
The incident took place on County Road 220 near Glasgow. Deputies were dispatched around 3:43 p.m. on Monday, October 20. According to a probable cause statement filed by the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, two callers told 911 dispatchers they were hiding from Doss, who had arrived at the home and was searching for them after previously making threats. One victim said Doss had phoned the residence earlier, threatening to “come there and kick in their teeth.” When he arrived, the woman said she hid inside a vehicle while Doss walked around the property, peering into cars. A second victim reported hiding inside the house while Doss tried the doors in an attempt to gain entry.
The statement claims that Doss “made several statements indicating possible delusional or paranoid behavior,” suggesting that one of the victims had implanted a microchip in his head, and stating that his car radio was sending frequencies into his brain and instructing him to seek treatment from a woman named “Shelly,” the statement read.
Doss was arraigned before Judge Gareth Cooksey on Thursday, October 23. He was scheduled to appear before Judge Mason Gebhardt on Tuesday morning for a bond review hearing as the Advertiser was going to press.
Doss faces enhanced sentencing due to previous felony convictions, including second-degree assault in 2014 and manufacturing a controlled substance in 2004, for which he was sentenced to six years in prison.
