The 2nd Annual Mary Jarboe Memorial Cake Show, a sweet tribute to Fayette's beloved Queen of Cakes, will return as a feature of the Fayette Festival of the Arts on Saturday, August 1. The event held on the Fayette square offers bakers the chance to show off their skills and compete for a prize.
The competition is free to enter and welcomes all types of cakes. Entries will be judged by a panel of three judges, with prizes awarded to the top finishers. First place will receive a $100 cash prize. Second place will receive a $50 gift certificate. Third place will receive a $15 gift certificate.
Contestants should bring cakes to the Howard County Courthouse between 8 and 10:30 a.m. on the day of the festival. Judging will begin at 10:40 a.m. Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at noon.
All contest cakes will then be auctioned to the public by local auctioneer Charlie Flaspohler.
