CMU track has strong showing at Lincoln Open

The Central Methodist Track and Field program continued spring competition at the Lincoln Open, hosted by NCAA Division II member Lincoln University Saturday in Jefferson City.

On the women’s side, senior thrower Karli Wolfe won the discus with a new personal best of 44.73 meters. Teammate Kali Brown placed second with a throw of 42.02 meters. 

In addition, Wolfe finished second in the shot put with a toss of 12.25 meters. Sophomore Baylee Beard won the shot with a NAIA National Qualifying ‘A’ standard throw of 13.48 meters. Beard also won the hammer throw with a toss of 52.25 meters, while Wolfe placed third with a throw of 45.54 meters.

Yanira Paninka finished third in the 400m dash with a new personal best time of 58.41 seconds. Dayana Montenegro placed second in the 100m dash in 12.08 seconds.

For the men, Colder Evans won the discus event with a toss of 50.33 meters. Evan Workman competed in the javelin, finishing second with a throw of 48.21 meters.

Junior long-distance runner Elvis Kipkosgei won the 5,000m run in a time of 16:02.39, while Kyle Newberry placed third in 16:20.50. 

Doriye Jackson won the 1,500m run in 4:04.41, and teammate Quest Weller placed third in a time of 4:14.80. 

Central will next compete in the UCM Mule Relays on Friday, April 12, in Warrensburg, Missouri.
