A Columbia man was arrested on multiple DWI charges following a three-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 Friday evening that injured seven people, including two teenagers from Fayette and one from New Franklin.
Samuel J. Creasy, 27, of Columbia, faces three counts of driving while intoxicated involving serious physical injury, three counts of DWI involving physical injury, and careless and imprudent driving resulting in a traffic crash. He was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol shortly after the crash, which occurred at 5:45 p.m. Friday between Midway and Columbia.
According to the patrol’s crash report, Creasy was eastbound driving a 2021 Ram 3500 when it overtook and struck a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2017 GMC Acadia.
The Ram left the roadway, struck a rock embankment, and returned to the highway. The Jetta and Ram came to rest in the left lane. The Acadia overturned and came to rest in the median. All three vehicles were totaled.
A 15-year-old Fayette boy sustained serious injuries, with minor injuries listed for a 14-year-old Fayette girl and a 15-year-old New Franklin girl. The Acadia’s driver, a 38-year-old woman from Fayette, sustained minor injuries.
An occupant of the Ram pickup, a 26-year-old Columbia man, was seriously injured. The Jetta’s driver, a 55-year-old woman, and her 80-year-old female passenger, both of Columbia, each suffered injuries described as minor and serious, respectively.
All seven injured people were transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia.
A court appearance for Creasy had not been scheduled as of Tuesday.
