Fayette Rotary Club President Eddie Campbell (right) presented a Paul Harris “Plus 5” pin to Janet Jacobs at the club’s regular meeting on Feb. 4 at the Senior Center. Jacobs is an honorary member of the Fayette Rotary Club following almost 20 years of active membership.
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition is named for Rotary’s founder, Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary in 1905 with three business associates. The honor is bestowed as a tribute to individuals who share Rotary’s commitment to the educational and humanitarian objectives of The Rotary Foundation.
The recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, totaling $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Established in 1957, the program encourages and recognizes substantial support of the foundation. Members receive “Plus” pins for each additional $1,000 contributed beyond the initial gift.
Contributions to The Rotary Foundation help fund initiatives such as PolioPlus, a campaign that has nearly eradicated polio worldwide. A portion of donated funds is returned to local clubs in the form of matching grants. This year, the Fayette Rotary Club received a matching grant that will be used to help renovate the entrance to the Fayette Senior Center.
Campbell thanked Jacobs for her continued support of both The Rotary Foundation and the local club. Jacobs and Commercial Trust sponsor the club’s annual Christmas meeting, including providing meals for Fayette High School students who perform music for the program. She also supports several other club projects.
