Janet Will Nuse, 79, of Fayette, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving friends and family, after a long battle with cancer.
Janet was born June 10, 1947, to Harry and Geraldine (Irion) Will. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, graduated from White Station High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas in 1969. She married Gene Nuse in 1980 in Ithaca, New York. Janet was a pharmacist at the University of Missouri, Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, and Sam's Pharmacy in Fayette.
Janet was known for her kindness and for the beautiful things she made for the people she loved. She won numerous awards at local and state fairs for her knitting, sewing, and smocking. She loved to cook and bake. Her trifle was legendary. She led a local Tai Chi Easy group and was active in the Sierra Club and Howard County Progressives, and formerly in the LTS Club and Linn Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gene; son Will Nuse (Greta) of Tacoma, Washington, and their children, Samuel and Sylvia; daughter Emily Morgan (Eric) of Rochester, New York, and their children, Owen and Alys; and her sister, Harriet Shaffer of Lawrence, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will hold a private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Rural Crisis Center.
