One person is confirmed dead, and two more are unaccounted for after a fire destroyed a residential-care home on Villers Drive in Fayette on Tuesday morning.

Fayette Fire Chiefs Gary Kunze and Steven Morrow confirmed one person was found dead near the back door of the Perkins Home residence. Six people were in the home when the fire began. Three escaped unharmed, including a woman in a wheelchair, after an employee smelled smoke and called 911.

The 911 call came in around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Chief Kunze said when the Fayette Fire Department arrived on scene around 6:40 a.m., the fire was fully involved.

The Glasgow Fire Department also responded. Fire personnel had the blaze under control by 8 a.m.

The Perkins Residential Care Center provides long-term residential care for adults who need support with daily living activities.

A family member confirmed that one employee of the home, Marcia Lyon, died in the fire.

Fire Marshals are investigating.

The situation was still developing as the Advertiser went to press Tuesday morning.
