Two local groups donate to food pantry

Posted

Two local groups last week contributed donations to the Fayette Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry, which operates out of the Keller Building. The Peacemakers Quilting Group presented a check for $1,500, and a group calling itself the People for Constitutional Democracy donated $1,385 along with more than 1,000 pounds of food.

The Fayette Ministerial Alliance supports the ongoing ministry and services of the local food pantry, providing assistance to families throughout the Fayette area.

The Peacemakers made the donation from proceeds from their annual quilt show, held in August in conjunction with the Fayette Festival of the Arts. This year’s show, themed “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” featured more than 150 vintage and new quilts of various sizes. Between 400 and 500 guests visited the display, which once again filled the sanctuary of Linn Memorial United Methodist Church. This year marked the Peacemakers’ 20th anniversary of hosting the beloved community event.

Community members are encouraged to mark their calendars for next year’s quilt show, which will again be held alongside the Fayette Festival of the Arts.

Members of the Peacemakers Quilting Group include Connie Shay, Linda Lembke, Jo Rohr, Julie Menees, Leah Lembke, and VC Alexander.

The People for Constitutional Democracy expressed special appreciation to the Braun Home in Fayette, which gifted 20 frozen turkeys and contributed half of the total monetary donations.

The Fayette Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry packs food at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month, with distribution from 1 to 3 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays.
