Someone broke into the press box and concession stand at the Fayette High School football field shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, causing thousands in damage. The school district announced the vandalism on its Facebook page last week.
Fayette Superintendent Brent Doolin told this newspaper that vandalism caused nearly $20,000 of damage.
“The sound system and security cameras were the most expensive things destroyed,” Doolin said.
The vandal broke several doors, busted holes in the metal walls, and broke out one of the windows. Additional vandalism was caused to the concession stand. The vandal also sprayed a fire extinguisher in the small black-and-gold shed in the parking lot and broke some pots and a sensor in the greenhouse by the Ag building.
“Our insurance company partners with a restoration company, and their estimate for repair and replacing everything damaged is a little under $20,000,” Doolin said.
Fayette City Marshal Bo Wells said on Monday that the department is investigating the vandalism, but has made no arrests.
On Monday, the district shared a five-second surveillance video on the Fayette High School Facebook page that shows the lone vandal, dressed in black pants and a black hooded coat, wearing white sneakers and carrying a shovel, kicking in a door. He appeared to be a white male. The district asked anyone with information to contact Supt. Doolin at bdoolin@fayetteschool.org, FHS Principal Jason Hannam at jhannam@fayetteschool.org, or the Fayette Police Department at 660-248-2241.
